SYDNEY – August 18, 2011: THE Pacific Area Newspaper Publishers’ Association announced tonight the winners of its Newspaper of the Year awards.
More than 1,000 entries were received for the awards – making it the largest ever held by the association and one of the biggest newspaper competitions of its type in the world. A total 71 judges from 8 countries were secured for adjudication.
Some 500 newspaper executives gathered in Sydney for the awards gala dinner.
Association chief executive Mark Hollands said: “The entries demonstrate the professionalism and dedication of newspaper people – and the level of participation shows that newspapers in our region are still vibrant and have a great future.
“The challenge of moving to the new era of digital publishing has galvanised the industry, and these quality and number of entries for these awards from across the Asia-Pacific region demonstrates this.”
