Appointments as part of News restructure

Peter Blunden has been appointed Victorian managing director of editorial

NEWS Limited has announced appointments as part of its restructure including directors for the new state-based hubs.

Regional director in New South Wales will be Michael Miller with a state editorial director not yet appointed.

“I am confident that Michael will bring energy and focus to ensuring that News in NSW drives the transformation process forward and delivers on its customer, commercial and operational targets,” said News Ltd chief executive, Kim Williams.

Former general manager of Cumberland Newspapers, John Webster will take on the role of national director at The Australian overseeing commercial aspects including digital strategy.

Former director of operations at News Digital Media, Les Wigan has taken on the role of director of commercial development. He has worked at BSkyB and will drive national classified strategies.

Mr Miller, Mr Webster and Mr Wigan will report to Jerry Harris, group managing director of newspapers.

Current Herald & Weekly Times managing director Peter Blunden will step up to the role of Victorian Managing Director – editorial.

“Peter brings unrivalled strengths to this new leadership position – including deep editorial and leadership skills and a close connection with Victoria and its consumers,” said Mr Williams.

Chief operating officer at News Digital Media, Stuart Spiteri will step up to the role of group director – innovation & integration.

Mr Spiteri has worked at Google Singapore and will drive product development across the company.

Mr Blunden and Mr Spiteri will report to Mr Williams.

Mr Williams said he will announce regional appointments in new state Victorian and Queensland state hubs this week.
