Entry into the PANPA 2012 Hegarty Prize is now open!

The prize recognises the management potential in young newspaper executives.

The Hegarty Prize is a bursary of $A10,000. Usually, it is used to finance a round-the-world study of any aspect of newspaper operations.

Nominations must be endorsed by the general manager, managing director or CEO of the newspaper. Each PANPA newspaper member may make only one nomination.

The prize was established in 1987 in memory of Patrick Hegarty, Executive Director of PANPA (1983-1986).

The winner must make a trip of at least 14 days. PANPA will assist with introductions for the winner and in planning the trip, which will be designed to expose the individual to newspaper techniques in other countries. The trip must be completed by June 30, 2013.

The winner will also receive an engraved plaque and the winner’s newspaper will receive the PANPA Hegarty Prize perpetual plaque to display for a year. The winner will be required to give a presentation about their trip at the PANPA 2013 Annual Conference.

Nominations must be endorsed by the general manager, managing director or CEO of the newspaper. Each PANPA newspaper member may make only one nomination.

Judging will be based on the information on the entry form and additional information the nominator provides including the nominee’s management potential and previous development.

It is therefore crucial that this information clearly demonstrates the strengths and achievements of the person nominated. Nominees should be well advanced on the management ladder and should have displayed significant personal and professional development.

The winner will be announced on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at the PANPA Newspaper of the Year awards dinner in Sydney.  The nominating newspaper must be willing and prepared to send the winner to the conference to receive the prize and to present at the 2013 PANPA Annual Conference.

The nominator, but not the candidate, will be advised prior to the conference.

To enter, complete the form here and either post or email it to us.
