NEWS Limited launched the eight annual Pride of Australia awards – a program that aims to recognise ordinary people doing extraordinary things to make Australia a better place – through its publications this week.
More than 1700 finalists have been recognised by the awards since 2005.
The public is invited to nominate someone in their community they think deserves recognition.
The 10 categories are outstanding bravery, courage, heroism, community spirit, child of courage, young leader, care and compassion, inspiration, environment, and fair go.
“These awards bring to light wonderful stories of Australians who do selfless, brave and truly inspiring things for others,” said News Limited chief executive Kim Williams.
“They remind us once again of the truly heroic things our fellow citizens do and reaffirm pride in the good things that our country and our people do each and every day,” he said
“They are a unique opportunity for our companies to connect and engage with the community and give them a sense of pride and belonging.”
The awards ceremony will be held in Sydney later this year.
