A NEW editor has been appointed to Business Spectator, the Australian Independent Business Media online publication recently acquired by News Limited.

Jackson Hewett replaces Charis Palmer who quit after the takeover.

Mr Hewett launched the online Productivity Spectator in March.

He has worked at Sky News and the BBC as a producer, reporter and video journalist.

Mr Hewett said the ongoing crisis in Europe, the high Australian dollar, the two-speed economy, and the huge macroeconomic shifts that are changing the nature of global trade were fundamental issues that affected Australian business.

“More than ever, readers are looking to the authoritative insights of our Spectators, and I look forward to working closely with them and also with the excellent journalists who bring the timely, accurate news throughout the day.”

Ms Palmer said she left Australian Independent Business Media because she believes in independent media.

“I believe there is a new path that can be forged for media, building businesses that aren’t focused on recreating the traditions of old media and putting them online. It’s time to rethink the media business, challenge what journalists actually do, and find ways to provide greater value to readers,” she said.
